Used Cars – Should I buy German spec or US Spec?
It really depends on some preferences of your own. Basically, you should buy a US spec car if you plan to bring the car back to the states with you when you leave. It’s very expensive to have a car converted to US standards, so most people do not buy a EUR spec car and plan to convert.
In Germany, you can get a very good deal on larger sized cars such as the BWM 5 series or BMW 7 series. Most Germans won’t buy a car with an engine over 2 liters in size because of the high cost of gasoline. This leaves lots of used cars in this category sitting in the lot. If you are German and are not concearned with the cost of gas, you will probably buy a new car anyway. One of the benefits of buying a German spec luxury car is that you get to drive a car for a few years that you ordinarily wouldn’t even consider because of the price. And once the car is on the American system (registration – insurance) it is very easy to sell to an incoming soldier or civilian.
