About the Dog
Rescued Rottweiler back in Homeland
The dog you see to the top left in the header graphic and to the left is my 10 year old male Rottweiler. His name is Salem. He is a rescue dog I adopted when he was about 2 1/2 years old. I have another female Rottweiler (Greta) who is a couple years older than him.
Salem was in terrible shape when I got him. He had teeth broken off at the gum line, rickets, heartworm and most of his hair was falling out from mal-nutrition. I found an ad in the local newspaper at the time (St Petersburg, Florida) for a Rottweiler Rescue. I decided to help them out and donate some time ot creating a website so that the dogs pictures could be more widley available. I ended up meeting Salem when I was doing this work.
The woman who ran the rescue told me how they ended up with him. A phone company utility worker was in a neighbrhood and saw Salem in another yard tied on a short leash which was wrapped up around a tree. He also had no water, and it was over 100 degrees that day in Tampa. He didn’t think about it, until he showed up back to the jobsite the next day. Salem was still tangled to a tree and out in the heat with no water. The utility worker walked over to the house, knocked on the door, and when a man answered he asked if he could have the dog that was tied up to the tree. The man said “Sure.” then closed the door.
When I adopted, and slowly brought Salem back to health, he was gentle with my other female Rottweiler and listened very well. He never acted agressive towards any other animals, or people. This is surprising, considering the abuse he went through with his Florida family who named him after a pack of ciggarettes.
I have used Salem’s image several times in my design work and elsewhere on the web in several advertisements. He is currently on the home page of this web hosting site (The BigDog Host). He appears also in the PortalGermany main site.
I wanted to introduce one of the very best dogs in the world ; ) He was rescued from a terrible inhumane life where he was beaten, starved, and very badly neglected. His spirit was never broken, and he turned out to be one of the best dogs I have ever owned. Salem now resides with me and his sister “Greta” in Heidelberg, Germany; back in his “homeland” so to speak.
