NEO Nazi’s Winery in Alsace, France
A post by a friend who recently had an unsettling experience in Alsace, France in the vicinity of Strasbourg.
What happened would make the hairs on your arms stand up at attention. The only difference was that the hairs couldn’t talk or shout SIEG HEIL! Yes, boys and girls, neo-Naziism is alive and well in Alsace. The only trick is knowing where and what to avoid.
We started out on a cloudy ,overcast day with the goal of purchasing some exquisite Alsatian Wines and were at the same time doing market research about possibly exporting wines to America. The vineyard in question and its village was discovered when we accidently encountered a traveling wine salesman who was trying to hit on a modest pension in a crumbling Alsatian village with the remnants of a ruined castle.
Like the witch in Hansel and Gretel, the old crone man with the hatchet face gave us a brochure with the prices and the location of the vineyard. The wines were very cleverly described as to aroma, bouquet etc. And the prices were really reasonable. A phone call to the vineyard in advance resulted in a time for meeting and tasting.
The owner of the vineyards name was “Damien” (Like in the Omen). Much laughter and merriment was made of this fact on the journey to the vineyard which was mirthfully named the Satanic Vineyard. Looking at my guide to Alsace, I discovered that the population of the village was 666. Mark of the Beast! The entire village had a creepy pallor as though it were enveloped in a fog. Not one shred of Christmas decorations were in evidence although the Alsatian Christmas season was already in full swing. .
A ferociously barking dog greeted their arrival (Cerberus ?) as we were suspiciously and reservedly invited into the Winestube for tasting. After a lively conversation in German and French about wines and the Americans appreciation for fine wines, the pros and cons of Affiliate Programs, drop shipping, tax advantages of both systems, we were without warning told that there was no interest and to get out NOW.
We were forbidden to pee in the bathroom. We were then followed out to their car and the owner of the vineyard menacingly told them never again to appear in THIS REGION and if they did he would pass the information on to others his Nazi friends.
The strangest part of all was in parting he told us “You know exactly why I ask you to leave.” We dont’ have a clue why we were rushed out, however we had our suspicions, because when we searched Google for “Neo-Nazis in Alsace”. Seems that its alive and well in parts of Alsace. FOREWARNED IS FOREARMED.

I drove up to Amsterdam this weekend. I love the city, and have a few friends from the states who go there to maintain DNS servers for Verisign, so when they are there I usually take a ride up to visit. It’s cheaper than flying back to the states to visit ; )
This weekend though, I got stopped by the Netherlands Border Patrol on the way in! It was one of those motorcycle types. Pretty cool actually. That’s a picture of one to the left. They wait on the side of the autobahn, take a look at you and if they want to check you out, they speed up in front of you on the motorcycle, and little sign flashes “Follow me” “Follow me” I followed him off to a side area where a whole polethra of police vehicles were waiting. They had vans, cars, motorcycles, 8 or so uniformed cops and even a little Japanese guy waiting for me. I handed over my passport, and another cop came over and started talking to me in Dutch. I asked if he could speak English, and he said yes. He wanted me to roll my window up a little. What he was doing is checking to see if my car had window tinting installed. He said it’s illegal in the Netherlands. He asked if it was there when I bought it and I said yes. He told me that he wouldn’t make me remove it on the spot (ha ha) and let me go.
Can you imagine owning your own castle in Germany or anywhere in Europe for that matter? I like to dream, and that is one thing I would really love to have for retirement. My own castle! I like this one
It’s Christmas Market season in Germany! A Chistmas Market is a huge market that is usually set up in a town square and runs usually between the end of November, and the end of December. You can buy red cider wine, candles, leather items, crafts and lots of other stuff. If you have never been to one, you don’t know what you are missing. Most cities in Germany have some sort of Christmas Market. The larger cities naturally have some of the largest markets.
